ΣAE

With the strength of 290,000 brothers, Sigma Alpha Epsilon welcomes you to join us in celebrating our return to campus.

Sigma (Σ) Alpha (A) Epsilon (E)

Listen:
Most initiated brothers of any fraternity thought the exact same things you are thinking now….. “I just don’t see myself in a fraternity.”…… “I don’t drink and fraternities put too much emphasis on alcohol.”…… and everyone’s favorite, “I don’t want to pay for friends.”…..

Think again.

No one was born with an innate interest in fraternity life. It issomething that grows with a person as they experience it themselves. Maybe you love the idea of a fraternity from what you’ve seen. Maybe you hate fraternities for the rumors you’ve heard. Fraternities are like sushi: Don’t say you don’t like it if you’ve never tried it.

So, you don’t drink? One of the most common misconceptions of fraternity life is that you have to drink, and drink heavily.

Check it out:

This isn’t Animal House. Certainly, fraternities have been known to have parties involving alcohol. No amount of fancy semantics or “don’t-ask-don’t-tell” philosophy is going to cover that one up. However, Sigma Alpha Epsilon places a strong emphasis on our National Risk Management Program – a program designed for the safety and structure of our brotherly functions.

Let’s end the speculation:

You are attending a University. You will be confronted with alcohol whether you join a fraternity, the dance team, basketball, chess, soccer, the Retriever Weekly, or simply attend class. No matter what you choose to do in your time at UMBC, be smart, be safe, Be True.

Woa, woa, woa. Do NOT pay for friends!
I don’t, why should you? Fraternity dues aren’t friendship dues. If that was the case, why would anyone ever join?
Look at it this way….
Remember in 2nd grade…when you signed up to play little league football? Remember how dad had to pay $160 to sign you up? Or how about that camp you attended during the summer…the one where you fell in love with Sally-Mae and formed some of the most memorable moments of your life? Remember how mom had to shove out $340 dollars to register you?
These things cost money. If there is no money, there are no socials, formals, brother events, free shirts left and right, food during catered events, insurance, trips to the O’s games. You get it.

Know this:

Approximately 80% of the top executives in Fortune 500 are fraternity men

71% of men listed in “Who’s Who in America” are fraternity men

76% of the current United States Senators and Congressmen are fraternity men

40 of the 47 Supreme Court Justices since 1910 have been fraternity men

100 of the 158 cabinet members since 1900 have been fraternity men

All but 3 United States Presidents since 1825 have been fraternity men

So Why Rush ΣΑΕ?

Any fraternity will tell you that they are the best. Maybe they’re right. Maybe they’re wrong. When it comes down to it, you should choose a fraternity that suits you, a fraternity of brothers that will support you through any endeavor for the rest of your life. Brotherhood, after all, doesn’t end after four years of school. Brotherhood is forever. That is something that Sigma Alpha Epsilon holds to the highest esteem.

-ΣΑΕ is the #1 national fraternity as ranked by the Gallup Poll.
-ΣΑΕ was the first national fraternity to be established in the deep South, having been founded at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa on March 9th 1856.
-ΣΑΕ is the largest fraternity in North America with over 175,000 living alumni and 220 chapters in 48 states in the U.S.
-ΣΑΕ created the first leadership school and national headquarters. The national headquarters is located in Evanston, Illinois and is called the Levere Memorial Temple.
- ΣΑΕ has a student loan program to assist in scholarship as well as leadership consulters.
-Notable ΣΑΕ’s include William McKinley(25th President), Dierks Bentley(Singer), David Spade(Actor), William Faulkner(Writer), Phil Jackson(Basketball coach), Pete Maravich(Basketball), Mack Brown(College Football), Bobby Jones(Golf Legend), Bo Schembechler(College Football), Fred Savage(Actor) and many more.

No matter what fraternity suits you, the fraternity experience can be the most rewarding part of a college career. To the faltering or aimless student, it provides motivation and guidance; to the scholar, it provides the opportunity to lead and share; to the young, it provides the growth that comes by association with upperclassmen; to the ambitious,, it provides the encouragement and experience needed to excel in all areas of endeavor; and to all, fraternity membership extends self-assurance and insight which will be retained

long after the memories of the classroom fade.
